Up until 1943 we lived in half a house with an alcove on Knollendamstraat in Amsterdam. Luckily, that September we were offered a better home at Majubastraat 7II in the Transvaalbuurt district, a neighbourhood that was initially home to many Jewish families, but where many homes were left empty after the Nazi roundups.
We moved house on my sixth birthday. It later turned out that the house we rented had been home to the Soesan family, who had been transported to Westerbork some months previously.
With my donation I want to honour the Soesan family who, against their will, made it possible for us to live for almost 20 years in the house they left behind.
