The findings of my genealogy research confirmed once more the madness of the war and the Holocaust.
Fighting against each other on either side of the battlefront were many young sons of the American branch of my family and the young sons of our German branch.
Moreover, the Holocaust tore the Dutch branch of our family apart. The Jewish stepchildren from the Borstel-Pruim-Frank family were transported to German extermination camps on account of their Jewish origin, while the non-Jewish children of the family were luckily spared this fate.
Benjamin David Frank (born 13 June 1877 in Groningen, died 24 September 1942 in Auschwitz) was one of those Jewish stepchildren.
We have chosen his name as our small contribution to this wonderful initiative. May this never happen again.
