I would like to take this opportunity to offer my short impression of the murder of Mr de Miranda, of Jewish blood, by a Dutch policeman.
It happened in the final days of 1943. I was 14 years old at the time.
I knew this man, as he was married to a non-Jewish woman, and together they ran a business on Gangetje, a street in Leiden. That’s how I recognized him.
He was forced to walk with his hands behind his neck, followed by the afore-mentioned policeman, who had his gun drawn!
By chance, at a reunion of the HBS School in Leiden later, I learnt that his son Jaap de Miranda (who had also studied at the same school) became a doctor and emigrated to Canada. As to whether his father had survived the war, the answer was negative. Nothing more had been heard from him.
Since I have no further information, I would like to make a donation to incorporate his name, if possible, into the memorial!
I kindly request you to let me know how I can transfer my donation, and I wish you every success with your fantastic work!
