When I read the letter of recommendation for the Holocaust Names Memorial, my eye was caught by the fourth photo, in which Peter Zwaga holds a photo of Meijer Groenteman with his wife and children. During the war Elisabeth Groenteman went into hiding with my uncle and aunt in Bolsward. During moments of extreme danger, when a raid was about to take place, she hid with my parents. I phoned her (she’s now 94 years old) and it turned out to be her brother, sister-in-law and their children. That’s why my husband and I immediately adopted this family.
