I am making my donation in memory of a friend and neighbour girl, Helena Spreekmeester. She lived with her parents – very loving people – and older brother in the Rivierenbuurt district of Amsterdam, at Waalstraat 180 III. First her brother was deported in 1941 and sent to a so-called work camp, and then after a night-time raid in 1942 the rest of the Spreekmeester family and many others disappeared from the street. It wasn’t until after the war that we heard their terrible fate. I often think of Lena and all the others, so full of life and hopes for the future. Let this never happen again!
