My name is Salomon Natkiel. My parents Joseph Natkiel and Marianne Velleman died in Sobibor, as did my grandfather and grandmother Betje Goudsmit and Salomon Natkiel, and David Velleman and Rachel Wijnschenk. My family had a business relationship with Janus Evers from Eindhoven. He ran a bicycle shop. The agreement was that if my parents were deported from Spinozastraat, they would send him a telegram instructing him to come and pick me up. That is what happened. Written on the telegram was: ‘it’s happened, come now’, and so I ended up in Eindhoven at the age of three. Now I have two children and five grandchildren of my own, and the name Natkiel is still alive. I live in Belgium and think that the Holocaust Names Memorial is a silent witness.
